ในการสื่อสาร หากเราไม่มีคำเชื่อมประโยค คงทำให้ดูแปลกๆ หรือต้องพูดจนเหนื่อย อย่างเช่น ฉันไปทำงาน เขาไปทำงาน พอใช้คำเชื่อม ก็พูดแค่ว่า ฉันและ(and)เขาไปทำงาน ก็รู้แล้วว่าไปทำงานกันทั้ง 2 คน โดยไม่ต้องพูดเนื้อเรื่องเดิมเดียวกันซ้ำๆ และยังมีคำอื่นๆ ที่ใช้แสดงความสอดคล้อง แสดงทางเลือก หรือแสดงความขัดแย้งกัน เรามาเรียนรู้กันครับว่าโดยส่วนใหญ่แล้ว มีคำว่าอะไร และใช้อย่างไร

Conjunctive Adverb

Conjunctive Adverb  เป็น  Transitional words ที่ทำหน้าที่เป็นตัวเชื่อมระหว่าง 2 ประโยค โดยเพิ่มเติมข้อมูลจากที่กล่าวมา เปรียบเทียบ อธิบาย

ตัวอย่าง Conjunctive Adverb เช่น

however     furthermore     accordingly
therefore     consequently     hence
moreover     then     meanwhile
otherwise     also     likewise
nevertheless     besides     thus

Sue is pretty ; moreover, she is generous.
Sue held her cat ; meanwhile, her brother washed it.

Correlation Conjunction

Correlation Conjunction เป็นสันธาน หรือตัวเชื่อมที่ใช้เป็นคู่ในการเชื่อมข้อความหรือประโยค
ตัวอย่าง Correlation Conjunction  เช่น

either…..or
neither…..nor
both…..and
not only…..but..also

 การใช้ either กับ neither

ตัวอย่างประโยคภาษาอังกฤษ
Sue is not only pretty, but she is also generous.
Both Bie and Gubgib  go to school by bus.

Coordinate Conjunctions

มักใช้เชื่อม 2 ส่วนที่เสมอภาคกัน
เช่น เชื่อมระหว่างนามกับนาม หรือ คำวิเศษณ์กับคำวิเศษณ์ หรือ  กริยากับกริยา หรือ ประโยคกับประโยค

ตัวอย่าง Coordinate Conjunctions ได้แก่

and  ใช้เชื่อมแสดงความคล้อยตาม และเพิ่มเติมข้อมูล
or, nor แสดงการเลือกหรือเปรียบเทียบ
so  มักนำหน้าผล
for  มักจะนำหน้าสาเหตุหรือ เหตุผล
but, yet  ใช้แสดงความขัดแย้ง

Sue went to bed but couldn’t sleep.

ส่วนการใช้ alike  จะไม่ต้องมี Noun ตามหลัง
